I’ve devoloped a almost hatered for the PS2. There is something about that system that drives me nuts. I guess it’s the fact that everyone has one. Before you go nuts, let me explain.
The hardware drives me nuts, I’ve seen more broken PS2s in my life than any other system. Ok, I understand Sony put out some crappy first gen versions of the PS2, but the fact they don’t offer a trade in deal or a rebate or something is dumb. I hate to look at my customers and say “Sorry, you have a broken PS2, the best thing I can do for you is give you $35 store credit for it towards a new one”. I hate doing that to my customers. I complain about them, but I hate to not make a customer happy.
Also, I think that since there are soo many out there that there are just some odd and strange games out there. Such as Dog’s Life, Guy Game, Athens 2004 (ok game, WAY too much button mashing!) and other just kinda odd games. I’ve just never been impress with the PS2 lineup, there are a few games out there that are worth having a PS2, but they are few and faw between.
As a clerk at a game store that does trade-ins I see some of the most screwed up games and cases you could imagine on the planet come in on PS2, I know there are a lot of people that own them ,but people take care of those $50 cds. I don’t like to stereotype, but I just see some crap come in on PS2.
I’m glad to see Sony bring out the slim line PS2s, for me as a retailer I don’t have to worry about checking 3 different color CDs in thing to check on the model. The new ones are solid and selling very well. We’ve had 3 shipments of the small machines and they sell out within a few days. Mostly right now they are getting moved by GTA and soon by GT4.
I’m happy with my Xbox. I’m a geek and the Xbox offers me a lot in that respect. I love the no memory card thing, Xbox live is slick as hell, and the mod scene appeals to my PC modding side. So what do I think of the GameCube? I hope to owe one next summer, there are some great games on the GC, and for $79 (used) and a $17 (used) wavebird controller to complete it you can’t beat the deal. And yes, for the PS2 lovers, I’m not saying it’s not for anyone, it’s just my opinion that I decided to express online, the system is great for some people, and yes it does have some good sides.
Posted by chris at 10:44 PM (22) TrackbacksYes, I’ve finally done it. I picked up an XBox the other night at work. There has been a huge shortage due to Halo 2 (which we have 600 reserves for at work and are opening at mid-night for, and I have to be there because stupid me has no classes on Tuesday). So when one of our Holday temps brought in his 2nd Xbox (a 1.6 (newer, faster, more reliable DVD drive) only played 12 times xbox) I had to jump on it. I paid $108 for it, which isn’t too bad. I currently have Soul Caliber II and the segaGT/JSRF discs to play, but luckily I can get some from work here soon. MS has a retail site for people like GS employees to learn about products, take quizes and earn points, and then cash them in for games, I plan on cashing in my 6000 points in soon for some sweet gaming and gear.
It’s been crazy at work. We release Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas early. We were given permission by Rockstar to sell it Monday night after 6 PM because we had soo many reserves (around 325 of them). We thought we’d be completely killed by the release because of the sheer number of people. But this time with a slightly different management team we pumped through 250 people in under an hour and a half. Since I’m the top non management position at work I get a lot of hours, which I love, but it’s starting to get to me. I’ve worked 50 hours in the last 6 days. So pretty much after class I head to work, come home, chill for an hour or 2, go to sleep, get up, shower, go to class and start the process over again.
I have met some cool people at GS, like Dan. We’ve been chilling out lately and he’s pretty cool. He’s needed some time away and chilling out seems to be helping with that.
Of course any of you that know me realize that this Xbox WON’T stay in factory condition. Any suggestions on games I should get for it. Post your comments! I’m in to mroe action games, not dark/RPG/sports. Looking to get Halo, Project Gotham Racing, Fable, Top Spin, Sonic Heros, Kingdom Under Fire, X-Men Legends, Burnout 3, Elderscrolls 3, Ghost Recon and maybe a Crash game. I’m looking forward to (obivously) Halo2, Prince of Persia, Need for Speed Underground 2, and the Sonice Mega Collection.

Posted by chris at 12:28 AM (0) TrackbacksThe RSS feeds are fixed and ready to go. Check em out on the sidebar! Check out the stats I’ve added on the left sidebar . I’ve been playing with EE templates lately and there is cool stuff.
Posted by chris at 01:13 AM (17) TrackbacksAnother thing that is pissing me off is the damn table design stuff. It’s fucking retarded. Sure I run a company that supposedly does web design but I HATE CSS. I have yet to have one my page designs work in CSS and I’ve litterlly lost hair trying to get it to work , and when one thing worked in IE it broke the design in FFox so it was useless. Sure I design in tables, and sure CSS is supposed to be better. Sure you can do relitive positioning and stuff, but my mind thinks in more concrete things not 5px from position x. Maybe someday I’ll learn CSS, maybe when I find a good guide to it (and you know I’ve looked) until then I’ll code in tables and enjoy being able to do what I want fast and efficiently. Tables are not evil and unless shown some definiate proof that they are bad I’ll keep designing in them. I’m not worried about losing a client due to using tables cause I don’t have any design clients, and that will probably never change wheather I design in CSS or not.
Posted by chris at 12:47 AM (0) TrackbacksI feel like bitching tonight. I’ve been working at my present job for about 4 months now. I’ve started to see some major trends in things, and a few of them need to stop. They are mostly personal but still.
1 - I’m getting tired of returning stuff. It’s not that I don’t want to accept it, it just seems that 50% of my transactions are returns. It’s not just me, everyone else seems to feel that way. It just started rescently. And most of it isn’t defective.
2 - I hate when people start to dis on PC gamers. They don’t know how hipacritical they are. PC games MUCH look better, have addons and updates, and usually load much faster. People don’t realize that the console they are playing is using PC hardware, it just has a TV out and doesn’t run XP. Heck the XBox is running a 2 generation old PC CPU. Get over your consoles people, there are good games on the PC.
3 - I don’t have time to play every frickin game in the store. I read GameInformer, Electronic Gaming, PC Gamer, and Gamer Pro to try and be as knowledgable, I also watch any pre-release DVDs we get in so I know something about the games I sell. But with 30+ hours of work , 12 credit hours of classes, 10 hours of homework a week it’s hard to get any gaming time in there.
I know I bitch too much but those things just drive me nut. People are just weird anymore.
Posted by chris at 08:54 PM (0) TrackbacksHeard some interesting news. They did it with tobacco and now they are going after the gaming industry. The National Institute on Media and the Family (NIMF) is sending kids out to gaming stores and seeing if they can buy M (Mature 17+) rated games. Does this scare me? A little, I’m probably not as much as a stippler on checking ids as I should be. Not that I let small kids buy M games it just that I mainly go by looks and just don’t force everyone to produce an ID. Now I will say that there are games out there that are rated M that are not the worst games in the world, I believe that kids need to experience some violence and swearing when they are younger as long as they know that those things are not right. I was over protected as a kid and then when I got my first part time job it completely sruprised me how much swearing and such there is in the world. I mean you can protect them all you want but they will get out on their own and i’d rather have my child prepared for what is out there then have them shocked when they realize what has beened hidden from their vision.
Posted by chris at 10:32 AM (0) TrackbacksI’m currently sitting on a Mac G5 Duel 2.5 GhZ machine with 2gb of ram and a 23 Apple display. And to tell the truth, I’m not impressed. I’m trying to help my borther out with a DVD project for one of his classes but we’ve ran into so many issues that never would have happened on the PC it’s making my beleif that when people say the Mac is easy to use that it is only easy to use for Mac fans. The switch is not as easy as ou would think it is. Sure they might be fast machines but I can’t get them do do what they are supposed to be able to do. This running the latest versions of all the best software and it can’t handle things like bringing photohop files into a DVD editing software and retaining all the information that was in the original file. It will pull in the file but non of the effects, killing most of the usefulness of the program. Mabe I’m just stupid about the whole thing. But I do consider myself a halfway intellegrant computer user but this just baffles my brain. Plus with my eye condition I have trouble reading things on the OS X screen. It’s a 23” display running at insane resolutions. I’ll stick with a PC. Maybe I could figure out these things if I owned one for myself and didn’t use other people’s for intervals of an hour or less at a time.
Posted by chris at 06:11 PM (12) TrackbacksBoy do I feel retarded! I was at the Ball State home coming parade today watching for my brother who is with the University Sings and while I was watching it go by, this guy just hands me a tie, I say thanks and he walks off. After I looked at the tie and realized what it was and who gave it to me I just about shot myself! I’ve always known Jim Davis the creator of Garfield lived here in Muncie but figured I would never see him. But holy shit! I got a tie handed to me by Jim Davis HIMSELF. The who wrote the greatest cartoon strip on the planet, the comic I adored and worships to this very day gave me a freakin tie and I didn’t even reconize him! God I’m retarded. I might email Jim though the site and see if he’d be willing to sign it for me. I’m not going to fall asleep and snuggle up with my tie.
Posted by chris at 01:32 AM (0) TrackbacksI’ve looked all over the web and couldn’t find anywhere I could download a Win98 Bootable CD image. All I did was
1) Made a bootable floppy from bootdisk.com
2) Used the Nero bootable CD function to make a CD out of the floppy
3) Created a .img file with Nero’s CD copy and image writer tools
4) Used UltraISO to convert the .img to a .iso for more compatability
What have a bootable Win98 CD? Cause no one really uses floppies anymore (I know I don’t have a floppy drive in my rig) and the Win98 boot disk was one of the best boot disks for Windows ever created.
Use Instructions
Nero 6 Instructions
1) Unzip File
2) Launch Nero
3) From the recorder menu choose > “Burn Image”
4) Find file you unzipped
5) Burn and enjoy
I know you usually don’t zip one file but it knocked the file size in 1/2 so I thought it would be handy.
Grab the file here:
