My new year My new year is going to start like the rest of my life is. Boring. I'm sitting here at home, on the computer. I HAD plans, I had backup plans, and guess what? both of them fell through. Why does this always happen to me? Now I don't wanna moan and grown too much, you don't want to hear it. But I'm just a little mad at myself for what I am.

I hope all your new years are good. I see good things happening in 04. I get to graduate, I go to college, I get to move out, I get to get a better job. 2003 was descent. Mostly non eventful. I mostly went to school and work. I did break my arm, that was fun.....not. Posted by chris at 10:33 PM Misc • (8) Trackbacks

Even More Reasons to hate Fedex God, I SOOOOO hate fedex (they don't deserve to get their name capitalized). You heard me rant about them here and here.

Well I'm at it again. Those dumb bastards. After my first post about Fedex I've gotten 27 comments of people who have gotten screwed over by fedex.

Here's the story, for Xmas my parents just said I could spend $X on presents and get whatever I wanted, since they had no clue what computer stuff I wanted. So I searched around and found an Orinoco Gold Card for $41 and ordered it on 12-16-03. Then 4 days ago (thursday) I got an email from them that follows.

SP2 Can eat me SP2 for XP. Ba humbug! Can Microsoft make me any madder? They are soo dang busy with security patches that they can't give us any descent, inventive new features.

SP2 gives us a new firewall, bet it will suck just like the first one! I don't run the XP one, I trust my D-Link. If you need a firewall use Zone Alarm.

OOOO, a popup blocker for IE. I would say it's about time, but IE is so dang out of date and clumsy that it doesn't phase my total and complete reliance on Firebird.

Accidental download/install program protection - bit woop, $10 says that it won't be as close to being as good as the Imunize function is SpyBot S&D. Not only does it keep you from installing it, but it also detects crap loads of nasty stuff on your machine and whipes it off the face of the planet.

Enhanced File attachment handling - Geez, another things I'm looking forward to --- not! Run a good AV people. AVG is a great app, even better if you pay for it. I've never had a virus in my life and that is why? Because I never open attachments? No, I do when I know they're ok. Because I don't accept attachments? No. It's because I have always either ran Norton AV or AVG. These apps detect and screen bad attchments.

What am I saying here? Microsoft needs to keep it's customers happy. Am I a Mac user? Nope, hardware is TOO expensive for my budget plus I don't like the propriterness of the hardware and the lack of upgrading choices. Do I use Linux? No, I've got crap loads of work and need to be able to do it as fast as possible and I can't get it done with linux. I'm stuck with windows. But all I use is XP and Office and use 3rd party apps to fix the other lacking things in XP. Comon' MS, gives us new things that work well and we auctuall like. Get your code in gear so we don't have regularly scheduled updates every month. MS is like a girl, having a monthly cycle. If I win the lottery, I'm buying a Mac! Winamp 5 Thoughts I downloaded a release canadite of Winamp5! I have to say, I'm impressed! I think they FINALLY got it right. God I've been using 2.91 forever and refused to use that dang Winamp3 garbage. Who knows where 4 went, guess I slept through that one. Anyway, 5 gives me the new features (ripping, burning, etc) as well as the old stuff. You can put 5 into classic mode which makes it amost impossible to tell from 2.9. Right after I upgraded I had to check the about screen to see which version I was running. I'm glad to say to all you DJ's out there, the J function is in this release! That was my BIGGEST complaint about 3. This release is also fast for the most part for an RC. I'll be gladly buying PRO and letting you know what I think. I don't like that they are charging for a full version but so far with what I see and the thousands of hours I've ran Winamp I guess it's only right that I pass a few bucks their way. I DJ with it so it makes me money. This is one time it's OK to pass the buck. ;-b Posted by chris at 01:41 AM Software • (11) Trackbacks

HA! I knew something was screwy! You guys remember when I went off about the Apple Store guy following us then the security guards being all paranoid about us. Well read this quote from Wired.

Allen has discovered that Apple uses a sophisticated video-monitoring system to automatically count the number of customers who enter the store, and to document their behavior once inside. According to Allen, Apple uses a ShopperTrak system to count the number of people passing the store, the percentage who enter, and the percentage of those who make a purchase. Allen declined to state his source. An Apple spokeswoman confirmed that the company carefully tracks consumer traffic and buying patterns, but wouldn't discuss its methodology.

I figured they had something like that. Big brother isn't the government it's Apple. Let the flames fly mac fans!

In other Apple news, thsi is one REALLY LONG ASS line! I would have said screw it and ordered online! Probably by the last person got in the store they were sold out of everything! ;-b Posted by chris at 09:38 PM Mac • (0) Trackbacks
