Jessie's Girl This is for my friend at school, he loves this song, mainly cause his name is Jessie. He needs a girl before we can envy him though. Here's the song though.

Note to Laptop Users You might have known this you may not. But all you laptop users out there. Ever been out on the road, have about 1/2 battery left and your notebook is a little warm and on top of it all it's running slow. I finally figured it out (I'm clueless sometimes). It's that dang Speed Step Technology (or whatever AMD calls it). The idea behind it is that when you're low on juice and the notebook is running hot that it kicks the processor down in speed so that it doesn't overheat and saves you presious go juice. I ran WCPUID on here constantly while having some back ground apps going and I watched it jump around from speed to speed, it bottomed out at 550MHZ(it's a AMD Athlon 4 1.1GHZ). You're all probably all going DUH, but hey I didn't know. Posted by chris at 04:06 PM Mobile PCs • (9) Trackbacks

Help Sammy out! My good friend Sam is having a little trouble on his blog. He wrote up something about a certain thing he saw, from what I understand, he did this from school. Now it seems he is in trouble for blogging in school. They CLAIM it violates their "Acceptable Use of the Division Computer System". Wait a tick, now I didn't read it word for word, but from what I skimmed (I don't have time to delve into the legal mumbo-jumbo), but I didn't see one thing about "Students of the Virginia Beach School system my not use the Division Computer System for the purpose of self expression and use of writing skills to help with anger management, these may include, but are not limited to: message boards, chat rooms, blogs and other such technologies." Did I see anything CLOSE to that? Nope! He did not violate it according to the way I read it. Now, if they try and add something in there about it and say "Hey, read it, it's in there” I’d be like, "You can't convict me of some that you didn't have a rule against at the time of the 'crime'“ Excuse me, that is against our United States Constitution. I'm no lawyer but that is the way I see it. Help Sammy out! Write or call his school, all the info is up over on his blog.

I've saved a copy of their policy on my PC, if they decide to change anything I have an old copy.

UPDATE: I just checked the United States Constitution, now I know this isn't really a "legal" United States issue here, but I would think that this would have some baring on it.

Article 1, Section 9, Clause 3: No Bill of Attainder or ex post facto Law shall be passed.

If you don't understand that it says that you can't be punished for something they didn't have a law for at the time of the act. Again, I'm no legal guru, I learned about this stuff in 8th grade! Posted by chris at 07:19 PM Other Blogs • (0) Trackbacks

Domain Pain Some of you already know this story, but I'm gonna tell it anyway.

Well on Sunday, the 9th of this month I made an early entry in my blog, and everything seemed fine and dandy with my site. I went to church and then to work that night. I thought nothing of it. Then when I got home I had something on my mind that I wanted to blog. I always leave about 6 IE windows open 24X7 on my machine (my blog, mt, my host's cpanel, and a few blogs I check regulary). So I just typed out my entry and hit save. I got a "Cannot find server" page. I thought maybe my internet was down. Checked, nope. I thought maybe the host was down, nope, Kevin's site was up. I was cunfused. I then thought my hosting plan got killed some how, I tried a few of my other domains and they all worked perfectly fine.

Then it hit me, my domain (chrishileman.com) expired on 9-9-02, and they emailed me about it, but the sent it to webmaster at chrishileman dot com, but since the domain was dead I didn't get it. I was mad at myself for forgetting it. So I grabbed my wallet, pulled out the ol' credit card and ran over to godaddy.com, I had this plan to transfer the domain to Godaddy from register.com when it ran out. I filled out all the forms and paid the $8 transfer fee. It said it would take a day to 2 to transfer.

The next day I checked my Go Daddy account and it said that it failed cause the domain was locked. Seems that register.com locks your domain for 60 days after it expires so a porn site (a few of you liked the idea of porn on chrishileman.com, I'll take some shots of myself and sell them for a small fee, NOT) anyway. I wasn't about to pay the damn $35/year to renew with register.com. I talked with a few friends and decided that I would pick up technoblog.com for my blog and bring up chrishileman.com when the 60 days was up. I called up the Go Daddy support guys to see if there was something I could do to get around the 60 day lockout, the guy I talked to said it was locked, I could either pay up to register.com or wait and get it from Go Daddy, while we were on the phone I picked up technoblog.com and then grabbed jazybones.com for our good TechTV Nut, blogger type friend. He was extremely excited about it, if he's on your blog roll, update his URL as well as mine!

So while I was waiting for the DNS to catch up, I got angry at register.com, I never wanted to go with them but I first registered my domain with a free domain company, and then to kill the ads all you had to do was pay the registration fee at register.com, so I was stuck with them for 2 years. They are extremely expensive! Dang, $35/year is steap! Go Daddy only charged $8/year. Why anyone goes with register.com is beyond me.

So since I was so mad, I went ahead and paid my renew fee for 1 year with register.com, my host has chrishileman.com setup as my main domain and that is what all my email addresses use so I figured I would pay for 1 year and then ASAP transfer it to Go Daddy, those guys are great, now I have an inside friend who hooks me up ;-b.

From now on, all my blogging will be here at technoblog.com. chrishileman.com will be a personal site about me and my work and such. I've wanted to do this for a while. Now I have a new domain, new look, now name and with the new name I can ramble about technology all I want. I'll still do some personal posts but I love to ramble about tech so this gave me a good excuse! Post comments and let me know what you think. I know I still have work to do on the templates and such. I'll get to that when I have a little more time! Also post in this week's poll! Posted by chris at 09:52 PM This Blog • (10) Trackbacks

Still working things out I'm still having trouble with http://www.technoblog.com, I'm working on it with the support people right now, I think they might have did something wrong in the DNS entry on the server. Once the domain is up and I get all the templates fixed, I'll get back to regular posting. Posted by chris at 09:47 PM This Blog • (0) Trackbacks
Domain Status Well I thought that all my domains would be happily back up and running by now. But alas they aren't, right now http://www.chrishileman.com is back up and running, I just ordered a trnasfer from register.com to go daddy, no that the locking period was removed it should go through. For some reason http://www.technoblog.com isn't up yet. I think it's cause of the lag of DNS. I wish when they implament IP v6 that they would find a better way but I don't think it's in the the standard anywere. Once the domain comes up I will get everything moved over and get the word out about it. Posted by chris at 12:23 AM This Blog • (15) Trackbacks
