I got on [H]ardOCP...kinda

I’ve been a long time [H] reader for years, faithfully everyday.  But I have never really tried to submit any news.  When I saw them posting a bunch of ways to countdown to the release of Doom3 I remembered that I had seen a DesktopX object that did countdowns on your desktop.  So I took a screenshot and submited the news with a tiny little write up.  The link made it in the week in review here.

Here is the text I sent them

The ways to countdown to Doom3 (drool) seem to never stop popping up do they?  For those running Desktop X (PC equiv. to Konfabulator) can grab an object to do countdowns. Grab it at

Am I lame or what here?

Arm update Went to the doctor the other day.. Got the splint off and the stitches out. Still no feeling in my hand ahd still no control of it. If it hasn't returned in 2 more weeks we'll have to get a EMG. I currently have to wear a brace around the break and one on my wrist to keep it straight so I can at least halfway use it. You should see me type, regular with the left hand, hunt and peck on fingered with the right, it really suck. Keep me in your prayers. Posted by chris at 01:37 AM ArmBreak 2003 • (0) Trackbacks

Becoming more normal Went to the doctor today. I got my splint off and my stitches out. But due to my nerve damage I now have a are brace on my upper arm and a wrist brace since I don't have 1/2 the control of my wrist. Your prayers about my nerve healing are appriciated. I can now type a little faster. Instead of one handed hunt and peck I can now type regular with the left hand and use my right index finger. I'm back to using my bone stimulater. I have to start working on getting my range of motion back in my elbow like I did last time, but this time I am going to try it and not use a therapist, that will save money, time, gas, and scheduling conflicts with work.

Speaking o fwork, I'm heading back this week, I only have 2 days but it's enough to get me back in the swing of things. I'm currently looking into a possible new job but I can't talk about it. Posted by chris at 11:05 PM ArmBreak 2003 • (0) Trackbacks

Numbness Went an saw the doctor the other day. Found out that my radial nerve is screwed up so my right arm and hand are numb. It could take weeks to months for feeling to return. Forget touch typing any time soon. Posted by chris at 12:00 PM ArmBreak 2003 • (0) Trackbacks

Back from surgery I got back from the hospital today. My hip and arm are in a good deal of pain. I'll be out of school for probably the rest of this week and all of next week. It kinda sucks but it has to be done. I'm tired of my arm being screwed up. Posted by chris at 07:29 PM ArmBreak 2003 • (14) Trackbacks

Stupid Work I was told at work tonight that I MUST have a release from the doctor before I can return to work after surgery. I see why they would want one. But I didn't need one last time I had surgery. From what I heard them say they are worred that returning to work last time contributed to it not healing when it was in no way anyone's fault. I talked to the owner's daughter and she said they have never had any other employee need one before. And they have hired a temp to replace me while I'm out. Let's just say as soon as I can I'm going to be back in there. I need money for college. I'm planning on just having the doctor write a release that says "Chris can return to work when he feels up to it" which is what he told me. Bad News I was planning to go see the doctor another month from now but that got changed. I had some nasty pain in my arm for the last couple weeks due to the broken screw in there. So we called up the doctor and scheduled an appointment which was today. He was surprised to see me since he wasn't expecting us so soon. I told him that I had been having a lot of issues with pain. He thought that it could be due to the fact tat I know that there is something screwed up in my arm and that my brain is just making up the pain. I tol him that I highly doubt that, I have a high pain tollerance and it just started. After feeling the arm for soreness (a sign of heeling) he felt a pop in the arm. Ended up that with little force he could more the 2 peices of bone. That's right, I have a plate in there but yet it's moving around.

After the X-Rays we decided that surgery was about the only way to fix it. They are going to take bone out of my hip and put it in my arm. The surgery is planned for the 17th of this month and I'll probably mis up to a week of school and work due to taking the bone out of my hip, he said it wouldn't screw up my hip but it might be sore for a few days afterward. The surgery is considered out patient but I will be in the hospital for 23 hours (enough for the insurance to consider it out patient).

I'm not looking forward to it but I'm tired of living with a screwed up arm. I've lived with it for 7 months now and it's getting annoying to not be able to lift things and do the things I like to do such as track and PE which I had to drop both.

Just wish I could get wifi in the hospital. Posted by chris at 12:03 AM ArmBreak 2003 • (15) Trackbacks

The waiting game I went to the doctor today about my broken arm. The X-Rays showed that the bone plate has started to pull away from the bone and that one of the screws is broken. This is a complicated situation. There are 2 schools of thoughts.

I will continue to use my EBI Bone Stimulater for 10 hours a day. I've worn it for 60 days and he says I need to for another 60. The X-Rays show that the bone IS healing but that isn't the only thing that has to be considered when you look at this kind of injury. The ductor felt the arm and it is no longer tender, which shows signs of internal healing, but I do have some pain in that arm, if the bone can completely heal then the plate will stop backing out of the bone and I will be fine. But if it doesn't stop backing out and it doesn't fill in like it should I will face another opperation to pull the plate and to heal the bone in other ways.

He was mystafied that I'm showing clarical healing but we see the issues with the plate, he showed the results to another doctor and that doctor was amazed at what is happening.

I guess what I am trying to say is that I need your prayers and thoughts for this to go through. The EBI BS (bone stimulater) seems to be doing well but I know that God is why my arm isn't hurting like they expect that it should.

Everyday I think about ways I could have avoided this whole situation. If I had not took the bike for a whirl around the block, if I wasn't watching for rocks and cracks in the road. But we can't change the past and can only hope for good things to come in the future. Posted by chris at 11:49 PM ArmBreak 2003 • (18) Trackbacks

Crazy Doctor I was seeing Dr. Jansen yesterday. I had a 4:15 appointment. I was there around 4 just in case they were running ahead of time because I had other things I needed to do that night (will discuss later). Around 4:20 (done laughing?) I heard alarms go off. I knew the sound. It was the fire alarm. I was like "Great, I'll be here forever now". As everyone filed out I saw Ed, a reserve fire officer come out of the building. I was like "Hey Ed (no pun intended) what's up?" He had no clue. We finally got word that something had sparked in OT (occupational therapy) and had caused some smoke. Of couse by now the fire department was pulling in. We were out there about 30 minutes before they let us back in the building. Ends up I was at the doctor til around 6:20. I was a little mad but I had to see the doctor. Ends up after 4 months, the bone still has yet to heal. Hey are going to put me on a machine that will send electric through my arm to stimulate bone growth. I hope it hurries up, I'm tired of it hurting.
