Getting Even Closer Today was our senior breakfast/graduation rehearsal. It was easy for me because I was in band for 3 years and heard all the instructions to the seniors in practice. Graduation is tomorrow at 2:45. I'm glad to be out of that place. I have some fun planned for the summer. I will be moving to Muncie soon. Don't worry, the house I'm moving into a house with Comcast Cable internet. There is currently a WIFI router in the house, plus I'm bringing 2 of my own, so we'll blanket the neighborhood with WIFI grin. I'll be attending Ivy Tech for my gen ed stuff. This is good for 2 reasons. First off, Ivy Tech is a LOT cheaper than Ball State is, and also this will allow me to live off campus all four years. It's not that I can't live on campus, it's just that I don't want to.

If I can get my cemera working I'll try to shoot a few. BUt there are no gauntees.

See you on the other side. Posted by chris at 01:25 PM School • (0) Trackbacks

Almost Done 2 days left of school. It's about damn time! Now don't anyonw start with the "those are the best years of your life" crap. My Grade/Middle/High school years sucked more than one can imagine and it's about time they were over. I'm ready to get out of my house and live on my own, bills and all. I don't care if I am a broke ass college student, at least I'll be happier. Posted by chris at 07:14 PM School • (0) Trackbacks

Project XL recording session A couple shots from my recording session for Project XL. We used my church's system and my PC with Adobe Audition 1.0 to record it. If I get the guy's permission I'll post our track. We ran out of time so it didn't come out perfect but hey, I don't run a studio.

SATs Suck I took my SATs today. They really sucked. They took me about 4 hours! I hope I did well, I skipped 5 questions and guessed on 10. But Westwood and Ball State aren't very pickey when it comes to SAT scores. They care more about GPA. Mine isn't the best so I should be ok. I'll let you guys know when I get the scores back and what colleges I'm accepted to. Posted by chris at 11:09 PM School • (7) Trackbacks

Watch as time flies by! Today marked the end of the first 1/4 of my senior year. It was a pretty easy quarter for the most part. My next quarter is going to suck. I have Mr. Smith for 2 periods during the day and he is a horrible teacher, probably the worst in the school. This year is fling by VERY fast. And if you ask me I can go faster. This summer I'll be working for my brother doing construction and not have to work at video world with people I dislike. I'll be living pretty much on my own. It will be nice! Drama is starting. I'm going to be in BPA (Business Professionals of America). Doing a ProjectXL project soon. I've already been helping a ton of people with their XL projects. I'll explain that some other time if you don't know what it is. Should be interesting. I'll keep you advised. Posted by chris at 06:20 PM School • (22) Trackbacks
How not to get sued by the RIAA Here's a little ditty I did for the school paper.

How many of you download music? Don’t be shy. I know you all do. I will admit that I have downloaded more than my share of files in the last 5 years. You have to admit that is an easy way to get the music you want. But there is no way you can fight the legality of the subject.

You may also be aware that people are getting sued for downloading music online. In this article I will try to give you some tips on how NOT to get sued.

Here’s how the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) is catching users. First they setup a computer with a heap load of copyrighted material on it. Then you go along and say you want “Red Hot Chilly Peppers – Californication”. You begin to download the file. As you are downloading, the RIAA gets your IP Address (a number assigned to your computer similar to a phone number). After they get your IP address they start to hack your PC. Yes, you read that right, I said hack your computer. They try to get onto your hard drive and get a list of all the illegal files on your computer. If the succeed they will then call up your internet provider and get your name, address and phone number. What? They can’t do that can they? Oh you bet they can! From there they issue a sopenia for you to appear in court. They usually want around $100,000 out of you for your Britney Spears collection. Pocket change for some of you right? Well here is some ways to help keep your tush out of court. I can’t guarantee these will stop them but they can’t hurt.

1 - Setup a firewall - Some people will tell you that if you use KCOnline or RTC that you are exempt for needing a firewall. That my friend is total myth. A firewall keeps outside users from accessing your computer from the internet. If you have KCOnline or RTC (or any other dial up service) I recommend that you run ZoneAlarm from zonelabs.com, it is a free firewall. If you look on their site you’ll see a free version. You can buy one from Norton but ZoneAlarm will do the job for free.

2 - Install PeerGuardian - PeerGaurgian is an application that will block the RIAA from even seeing your computer on the internet. They can’t hack something they can’t see. Once you download and install the program you need to make sure you update the software around once a week because the RIAA is always changing their IP addres’s to try and fool this software. Go download it at http://xs.tech.nu/ .

3 - Don’t be a supernode - What is a supernode you may ask? It is a point on the file sharing network that keeps track of who has what music so that when your search for Linkin’ Park it goes through a supernode. The RIAA likes to get after these supernodes and sue them. You should see this option in Kazaa and WinMX.

Will the above keep you from getting sued. Maybe but I can’t guarantee anything and I won’t help pay your settlement. And no I’m not saying downloading music is in anyway legal. But I don’t like the idea of high school students getting sued. If you have any tech questions you want answered contact Chris HIleman and let him know. No Senior Trip I learned on Friday that our senior trip to Washington D.C. has been canceled. Why you may ask? Because no one really wanted to go. They needed 40 people to sign up in order to make it cost effective. They only had 31 people so they had to cancel. That is really sad, I was really looking forward to going and now I got screwed out of it. Maybe I'll go somewhere else during spring break. Maybe I'll stay with my brothers at Ball State (possibly where I will go) and attend class there to see if I like it. Posted by chris at 12:42 AM School • (0) Trackbacks
