HA! I knew something was screwy! You guys remember when I went off about the Apple Store guy following us then the security guards being all paranoid about us. Well read this quote from Wired.

Allen has discovered that Apple uses a sophisticated video-monitoring system to automatically count the number of customers who enter the store, and to document their behavior once inside. According to Allen, Apple uses a ShopperTrak system to count the number of people passing the store, the percentage who enter, and the percentage of those who make a purchase. Allen declined to state his source. An Apple spokeswoman confirmed that the company carefully tracks consumer traffic and buying patterns, but wouldn't discuss its methodology.

I figured they had something like that. Big brother isn't the government it's Apple. Let the flames fly mac fans!

In other Apple news, thsi is one REALLY LONG ASS line! I would have said screw it and ordered online! Probably by the last person got in the store they were sold out of everything! ;-b Posted by chris at 09:38 PM Mac • (0) Trackbacks

Apple Store Backdoor For those ITunes for Windows users, buy something on the ITunes store. Burn it to a CD then rip it in Music Match. That way you can play it in Winamp and put in on your Nomad. Posted by chris at 12:46 AM Mac • (11) Trackbacks

Ick at Apple "You’ll find an inviting atmosphere and plenty of staff on hand to answer any questions."

LIES!!!! I don't want to hear you Apple people try to stand up for the company. I'm not saying every Apple employee is a pain in the ass, but the ones in the Indy Keystone Mall are! The lighting guy and I decided to head in there between the children's musuem and the theater. You all know I'm a Windows guy and have said in the past that I would use a Mac if I had one. So I thought I would go in and try one since I have never used OS X in my life. At first glance I will say the overall style of the store was nice, bright and friendly--that was til I met the employees. Now when I went in I had a camera bad over my sholder, inside was a 2 year old Sharp DV cam, a 1 year old Olympus camera, a 1 year old Handspring Visor, and a 5 month old Creative Nomad Zen. And my friend the lighting guy had a book bag on his sholder with our clothes in it (we had to dress up for the theater). When we got in there we decided we would look at the big stuff, (17" Powerbook, 23" LCD, etc.) and I was just looking through the apps they had installed in the doc just to get a feel for the OS. We had a guy come and ask if we needed help, I told him I was a Windows guy considering the switch and just wanted to get a quick feel for the machine. He was like ok, kinda gave us a strange look, and walked off. Then we ended up at a machine that has a 23" LCD and a 17" setup for duel monitors and it also had a DV cam hooked up as well as a FW HD. So since I've been doing some DV editing I started up Final Cut Express just to see how it looked and worked. Then we had another guy come and ask if we needed help. I told him I did some DV editing and had heard the Mac was good for it and was just looking. I know they want to do demos and such for you. But everything looks good in a demo, but I'm a guy who likes to figure things out myself and get a lot more out of it. If I can't figure it out in 20 minutes then there is no chance I'll buy it. There is just something about the OSX system that doesn't click with my head. I've heard people say "It works how your brain thinks". Guess it doesn't work how a geek's mind works. Anyway after messing with the DV stuff for about 5 minutes we then took a look at the new IPod. My thoughts? Small, smaller then my Zen, Screen - yes bigger, interface - didn't make sence, I even asked a guy and he tried to show me and still made no sence! Plus you had to kill that damn scroll wheel thing. Let's just say I'm sticking with my Zen. So after that we left, and as we started walking down the hall TLG (the lighting guy) said "You probably didn't notice it but there was an employee that followed us out of the store and watched us as we walked down the hall". I find that offencive! Sure I had a camera bag filled with MY electronic devices that I didn't want to leave on the bus and that Apple sells NONE of these products. Yes I did pull out my Zen to compare with the IPod but I didn't pocket the IPod, it was secured down and I'm just not stupid. I don't know if the Apple guys called security and asked them to keep an eye on us because we went to a mall map just down the hall, and as we were scanning the list of stores, a security guard walks right up to us from his "post" and asked "Can I help you find any store?" I find it odd that 45 seconds after we get escorted out of a store, a security guard asks us if we need help. Odd, not accusing anyone, but odd. We were in the mall for about another hour, only thing I bought was a Strawberry smotthie. That mall was very high class. I hope hoping for like a EB World or something like that. Not to be found. I was glad to get out of there!

So am I going to switch? Hell no!! I don't like the OSX interface, I don't like the staff I met, I don't like the price. I like my XP systems, I love my Zen, and I'm NOT going to switch. I don't care if someone gave me one, I'd sell it on EBay.

Update: Scott is trying to get me to swich. FYI, ain't gonna happen! Posted by chris at 01:39 AM Mac • (0) Trackbacks

Apple Thoughts Couple of thoughts on the Apple Music Store.

.acc files - BAD IDEA
$0.99/song - GOOD IDEA
128kb/s - BAD IDEA
Lack of PC compatibity (yet) - BAD IDEA
New Ipods? - Lame, not much of a change and still way over priced, I'll stick with my Zen. 20 GB = $250, nuf said.

And you think people are going to switch from Kazaa to this? Some might, I'm not saying it's a horrible thing, but my ears like 320kb/s and my player like .mp3/.wma/.wav not .acc.

We'll just see how it flies. I don't plan on using this service even when it comes to the PC. Personal opinion, please flame, thanks. Posted by chris at 07:48 PM Mac • (14) Trackbacks

And they say MS messes things up! I know some of you Mac guys might not like this. Oh well. But a guy took Linux and made a .Mac server out it. You know what that tells me? It says that Mac isn't that much more secure (yes BSD is pretty secure, but Apple didn't write BSD did they?) anyway, this shows that if you want, you can find a hole anywhere you want. Don't call this a hole? I do, this means Apple will loose some of it's .Mac subscribers, mainly because they would rather upload thier photos over the 100MB/s ethernet then upload them to the Apple servers. If the tables were turned and Apple had 95% market share, it would be us (the windows people) crying foul and you mac guys getting attacked by security holes cuase of having more users. Both products are good, they are a far cry from perfect but I think they are good and each company will do its best to improve. I just had to get that out! Picky, picky! "Apple apparently is none too pleased about the decision to move Macworld to Boston from New York in 2004. So much so that they have said that they 'will not be participating in Macworld Boston.' They are also considering pulling out of Macworld New York 2003, though they say they will be at Macworld San Francisco." {Via Slashdot}

I find that VERY funny. Just cause it moved they are having a cow! I mean geez, if I was a company with 5% of the computer market and wanted to make that figure higher; I sure as hell would be at a confrence that was supporting my cause! That is like having a presidental address without the president! Oh well, I don't own a Mac, I want one, but I don't have the $2000 I would need to get the hardware and get the Mac copy of my software. Let the hate comments fly!
